“But we lose something when handwriting disappears. We lose measurable cognitive skills, and we also lose the pleasure of using our hands and a writing implement in a process that for thousands of years has allowed humans to make our thoughts visible to one another. We lose the sensory experience of ink and paper and the visual pleasure of the handwritten word. We lose the ability to read the words of the dead.”
Notate Bene:
☞ Depicted here are images, for illustrative purposes only and not sale, of poetry in various states of his creative process, taken from one of Jono Borden’s personal notebooks. You will not receive a notebook, but rather papers created by him for your collection.
While these volumes, for reasons of preservation, are not on offer for purchase, collectors are invited to view samples of the poet’s penmanship above, anticipating what they can expect when commissioning their very own transcription of Jono’s work, tailored for them by Borden’s own hand.
Available in three variations, designated by each poem’s length, indicating the complexity of craftsmanship and calligraphy as well as time required by him to complete them, patrons are encouraged to select, by approximate number of lines as noted below, either a Lyric, a Drama, or an Epic from the bard’s prolific archive of verse.
Regardless of its individual size, rest assured that you will receive, in full, unique to your order, all lines of a previously published poem transcribed in its entirety, with personalized dedication, dated and autographed, handwritten using his preferred 2.5 mm line width, chisel-tipped Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Calligraphy Ink Pen, in highly lightfast, black pigmented drawing ink with high light resistance, that is waterproof, permanent, odourless, acid-free, pH-neutral, and bleed-proof on his favoured Mohawk Fine Papers’ Strathmore, 25% cotton laid, natural white, 24W/90gsm, 21.59 × 27.94 cm (8 ½ × 11 in.), windpower, Green-e Certified, FSC Certified, ECF, acid-free, watermarked paper, suitable for framing, comprising hand-numbered, initialed sheets (foliated manuscript pages), stamped with the seal of Jono Borden’s private library, the Bibliotheca Ionathani Bordenii, ensuring enjoyment and asserting authenticity for centuries to come.
With fellow bibliophiles in mind, Borden is pleased to continue a tradition in which he and his readers can together participate, trading in hand-penned treasures just as Jono’s heroes of generations before exchanged in their so-called Republic of Letters. At its core, the most human, tangible form of his art that you can score, short of having Borden perform in your home, while still adorning the walls of your halls with his hallowed voice’s bellowing echo. A timeless gift, to be sure.
